In a groundbreaking move to enhance employee well-being, Chinese retail mogul Yu Donglai has introduced an “unhappy leave” policy, allowing staff to take up to 10 extra days off annually if they are feeling unmotivated or dissatisfied.

Donglai, the founder of Pang Donglai, has been vocal about unhealthy corporate practices in China, often criticizing long working hours that affect personal growth. His company has now implemented a 7-hour workday, extended Lunar New Year holidays to five days, and offers a job-level certification system that allows even janitors to earn up to 500,000 yuan (approx. $70,000) annually.

The policy has sparked widespread discussion on Chinese social media, with many users praising the company’s progressive approach and expressing interest in working for Pang Donglai. The initiative challenges China’s traditional work culture and emphasizes employee happiness as a key factor in productivity and success.
