Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan-Afghanistan talks are at a complete deadlock, and there is no schedule for the next round. He added that Pakistan returning empty-handed shows that even the mediators no longer have hope from Afghanistan. Asif also thanked Turkey and Qatar for their sincere role as mediators and for supporting Pakistan’s position during the discussions.

Asif explained that the Afghan delegation wanted their points to be accepted verbally, which Pakistan could not agree to. He emphasized that final decisions in international negotiations are always made in writing. Although the Afghan team agreed with Pakistan’s stance in principle, they refused to put it in writing.

The defense minister further stated that the talks are effectively over, and even the mediators have lost hope. If the mediators had any confidence, they would have asked Pakistan to continue, and Pakistan would have cooperated. He also made it clear that Pakistan is ready to respond effectively to any attacks originating from Afghan territory.

He added that the ceasefire will remain in effect as long as there are no attacks from Afghanistan. However, if there are violations of the ceasefire, Pakistan will respond decisively. Pakistan’s main demand remains that no attacks should come from Afghan soil.
