The Federal Investigation Agency has suspended an officer following allegations of misconduct and assault during a raid at Karachi’s Saddar Sarafa Bazaar.

According to an official statement, FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident after videos of the operation circulated widely on social media. He directed relevant authorities to submit a detailed inquiry report within 48 hours after reviewing all aspects of the case.

The FIA stated that the agency remains committed to transparent and impartial action under the law and warned that strict measures would be taken against any unlawful conduct by officials.

Following the incident, FIA Karachi Zone Director Syed Muntazir Mehdi ordered the suspension of the Station House Officer of the Anti-Corruption Circle. Authorities said the suspension was aimed at ensuring a fair and institutional review of the matter.

The controversy emerged after FIA personnel conducted a raid on a jewellery shop in Saddar, claiming the action was linked to an investigation into alleged silver smuggling activities. However, videos shared online appeared to show officials acting aggressively and physically assaulting shop employees and traders during questioning.

The footage sparked criticism from traders and social media users, with calls for accountability and an independent investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.

The FIA reiterated that no individual is above the law and emphasized that investigations into illegal trade activities would continue in accordance with legal procedures. Officials also stated that disciplinary action would be taken if any officer was found to have violated rules or misused authority during the operation.

The incident has once again raised concerns regarding the conduct of enforcement agencies during raids and the treatment of business owners and workers during investigations.
