Finance Minister Aurangzeb Meets World Bank President Ajay Banga

Washington D.C. — Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with World Bank President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington D.C., where both leaders discussed Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, post-flood recovery, and future development cooperation.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister recalled the Prime Minister’s earlier engagement with Mr. Banga at the UN General Assembly and reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong partnership with the World Bank.

He briefed the Bank President on the government’s comprehensive flood response strategy, appreciating the World Bank’s swift support following the post-flood damage assessment. Senator Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and cooperatives to improve outreach to small farmers and enhance agricultural resilience.
The Finance Minister also acknowledged the World Bank’s technical assistance in formulating Pakistan’s Tariff Policy and highlighted the recent MoUs signed with provincial governments to advance the implementation of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

He further requested additional financial support under the International Development Association (IDA), citing reduced allocations, and called for a comprehensive reform approach to strengthen Pakistan’s gas and power sectors for long-term sustainability and efficiency.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to continued collaboration in areas of climate resilience, economic reform, and sustainable growth.
