The Anti-Terrorism Court in Gilgit has sentenced former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Khalid Khurshid, to 34 years in prison and imposed a fine of 600,000 Pakistani rupees in a case involving serious threats made against security agencies, the Chief Secretary, and the Chief Election Commissioner of GB.

The verdict came after an important hearing in the Gilgit court, where it was established that Khurshid had issued threatening statements during a public gathering on May 26, 2024. He was accused of using alarming language aimed at key officials, including the Chief Secretary and the Chief Election Commissioner, warning of severe consequences.

The court also ordered the Inspector General (IG) of Police to immediately arrest Khalid Khurshid and transfer him to jail. Additionally, a directive was issued to block his national identity card as part of the punishment.

Khurshid had been charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act, with a case filed at the City Police Station in Gilgit. He remained absent during the proceedings and had been evading arrest, prompting the court to take a strong stance with this ruling.
