Germany Selected to Host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2029

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) President Aleksander Čeferin has officially announced that Germany will host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2029, following a special ceremony held in Nyon, Switzerland.
According to Čeferin, Germany secured hosting rights by a narrow voting margin, defeating bids from Poland and a joint Denmark–Sweden proposal. He noted that choosing one bid over the other was challenging due to the strong competition.
The summer tournament will feature 16 national teams and will be played across eight German cities, including Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Wolfsburg.
Portugal and Italy had initially submitted interest in hosting but later withdrew their documentation to focus on their joint ambitions for the 2032 Men’s Euro and the 2030 Men’s World Cup.

In the final vote, Germany received 15 votes, while Denmark–Sweden collectively secured only 2 votes. Poland received no votes, resulting in a clear win for Germany.
This will mark Germany’s third time hosting the Women’s European Championship. The nation last hosted the event in 2001, where it famously won its third consecutive title—a record yet to be matched by any other team.
Switzerland hosted the previous edition in 2025, where England successfully defended its title by defeating Spain on penalties. England will now aim for its third consecutive championship in 2029, while Germany remains the only team to have ever achieved more than two back-to-back victories.
