Good news for car sellers

The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has announced a two-month relaxation in biometric verification for vehicle ownership transfers across the province. According to an official notification, ownership transfers can now be completed using only the seller’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) until August 14, 2025.

A spokesperson for the department stated that the decision was made to facilitate citizens and reduce delays in the transfer process. “This is a temporary measure aimed at easing the burden on vehicle owners, especially in areas where biometric verification facilities may be limited,” the spokesperson said.

At the same time, traffic authorities in Karachi have intensified their crackdown on non-compliant number plates. Vehicles, especially motorcycles, with fancy or non-standard plates are being seized across the city. Police compounds are now filled with impounded motorcycles that failed to meet legal number plate specifications.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah emphasised the importance of using government-approved, legible number plates. “Illegible or decorative plates will not be tolerated. “This is part of our preparation for the full rollout of the e-challan system, set to launch next month,” he stated.

Beginning July 2025, an automated camera-based e-challan system will be activated to detect traffic violations, including plate infractions and signal jumping. The initiative is aimed at improving traffic discipline and ensuring smoother enforcement in Karachi.
