Govt to Issue Over 115,000 New Gas Connections in FY 2025-26 Despite Ongoing Shortages

ISLAMABAD – In a move that may raise eyebrows amid ongoing gas shortages across Pakistan, the government has announced plans to issue 115,530 new gas connections in the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, as revealed in the recently released budget documents.

According to the plan, 85,740 connections will be provided under the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network in Sindh and Balochistan, while 30,530 connections are set to be issued under Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for areas including Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The target also includes 550 new commercial and 350 industrial gas connections, despite nationwide concerns over gas load management and supply constraints.

In the current financial year, a revised target for new gas connections has been set at 20,061, reflecting a cautious expansion amid infrastructural and supply-related challenges.

Earlier, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik hinted at lifting the existing ban on domestic gas connections, stating that discussions on the matter had already been held with the Prime Minister. He assured the public that any progress would be communicated transparently.
