Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi confirmed on Monday that General Asim Munir is the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Pakistan. He addressed rumors circulating on social media and confirmed General Munir’s position, debunking false claims. Abbasi emphasized that he had previously announced General Munir’s promotion to Field Marshal. “The respect God has given to Pakistan through him is unparalleled,” Abbasi stated, highlighting General Munir’s role in shooting down Indian aircraft.
Abbasi further hinted that the formal notification of General Munir’s position might have already been issued. He stated it was the government’s decision when to announce the confirmation officially. The minister also pointed out the global recognition of Munir’s achievements and the respect he commands, especially after his role in defending Pakistan’s airspace.
Turning to political matters, Abbasi criticized the opposition party PTI. He compared PTI’s situation to “a cat dreaming of scraps,” implying their futile efforts. Abbasi recalled how PTI attempted to stop General Munir’s appointment as Army Chief, including a long march. “But Asim Munir became the Army Chief despite their efforts,” he noted. The minister also stated that no one in PTI had conspired against the country during that time.
On the internal political front, Abbasi shared his thoughts on several prominent figures within his own party. Regarding Khawaja Asif, he suggested Asif should not criticize former Army Chief Qamar Bajwa, as he had benefited from his leadership. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to Nawaz Sharif and the current leadership. Abbasi further clarified that he does not seek mediation from Shehbaz Sharif regarding his differences with Khawaja Asif.
Lastly, Abbasi addressed the allegations against former spymaster Faiz Hameed. He claimed that Hameed was under surveillance and that his actions were being closely monitored. “When the enemy dreams of dividing an institution, they are eventually caught,” Abbasi said. He suggested that Hameed, during his tenure, had acted without realizing he was being recorded.
