Bushra Bibi legal case

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the registrar’s office to assign numbers to the appeals filed by PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case. The decision followed the resolution of objections over the late filing.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the application, which sought removal of objections related to the appeals’ filing. Barrister Salman Safdar represented the couple, accompanied by Imran Khan’s sister Almiya Khan and other legal representatives.

Safdar told the court they had expected relief during Ramadan. He cited delays in receiving power of attorney documents, which affected representation in over 300 cases.

He added that the Chief Justice had assured him that genuine issues at their address would be addressed. Safdar submitted the application with concern due to pending authorizations from Adiala Jail authorities.

Justice Soomro noted that no power of attorney is required for filing appeals. Safdar explained that the filing branch had been unresponsive, causing the delay.

After hearing the arguments, the IHC ordered the registrar’s office to remove objections and assign appeal numbers for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The judge confirmed the appeals are listed weekly.

Following proceedings, Almiya Khan asked about the appeal numbers. Justice Soomro replied with a smile that numbers had already been assigned and praised the legal representation.
