Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday held a telephonic conversation with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The two leaders exchanged views on the regional developments and their broader economic implications, particularly in light of rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. The ongoing crisis has disrupted maritime activity in the region following the escalation of conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

During the conversation, Ishaq Dar highlighted Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote constructive engagement and diplomacy aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region and beyond. He emphasised that dialogue remains the only viable path to resolving ongoing conflicts.

Kuwait’s foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating diplomatic efforts and acknowledged its sincere commitment to fostering peace and security not only for the Muslim world but also for the wider international community.

Both sides reaffirmed the strong and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Kuwait and agreed to maintain close coordination on regional and international issues.

The discussion comes at a time when tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high, with reports of naval blockades and restricted shipping routes affecting global oil supply chains. The United Nations has also warned of serious economic consequences, including increased poverty and food insecurity, if the situation worsens.

Pakistan has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, including hosting high-level talks between the United States and Iran earlier this year in Islamabad. While those discussions have yet to produce a breakthrough, Islamabad continues to play a facilitating role in encouraging dialogue between the parties.

Officials say diplomatic efforts are ongoing, though significant challenges remain in reaching a lasting resolution.
