ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a comprehensive traffic plan for Pakistan Day celebrations on March 23, aiming to ensure smooth vehicular movement and security in the capital.

According to the plan, heavy vehicles will be restricted from entering Islamabad from noon on March 22 until 3 PM on March 23. Additionally, the Srinagar Highway will remain closed from 7th Avenue to Koral Chowk between 6 AM and 1 PM on March 23.

Alternative routes for commuters

  • Travellers from Bhara Kahu can use the Pak-China Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Kashmir Chowk, and Club Road.
  • Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore can opt for the Taxila Motorway and Tarnol Phatak to Fateh Jang Motorway.
  • Traffic from Lahore’s GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi can take the Chakri Motorway via Chakri Road.
  • Vehicles from Peshawar heading to Rawat can use the Taxila Motorway, Chakri Road, and Rawat.

Commuters have been advised to plan their routes to avoid disruptions.

Due to the holy month of Ramadan, this year’s Pakistan Day celebrations will be held on a limited scale while maintaining the significance of the occasion. The Pakistan Day Parade will take place within the Aiwan-e-Sadr (Presidential Palace), featuring contingents from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. President Asif Ali Zardari will be the chief guest, with military contingents presenting a salute in his honour.

Pakistan Air Force fighter jets will perform a flypast over the Presidential Palace, while the Pakistan Army’s renowned Pipe and Percussion Band will deliver a musical performance. Foreign diplomats and other distinguished guests have also been invited to the event.
