Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed concerns over the current state of politics in the country, emphasizing that the Muslim Ummah had been united when led by religious scholars. However, he claimed that with the rise of political control by others, division and bloodshed followed.

Addressing the Ulema Convention, Maulana Fazl highlighted the disarray in politics, noting that it was now dominated by discord, strife, hatred, and conflict. He emphasized the JUI’s mission to guide people towards unity and the promotion of humanity’s causes.

“We advocate for unity within the nation and the cause of humanity,” said Fazl. He also stated that the JUI holds a significant position in parliament and reminded the audience that the Constitution and Parliament belong to them.

In discussing the proposed 26th Amendment, Fazl compared it to a “black snake,” claiming it targeted Article 8 of the Constitution. He outlined that JUI had fought against the provisions of the amendment, forcing the government to retract 34 clauses from the draft.
