Justice Yar Muhammad Sworn in as Caretaker CM

ISLAMABAD: Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad was sworn in as the third caretaker chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at the Governor House in Gilgit, with Governor Syed Mehdi Shah administering the oath. The event was attended by federal minister Amir Muqam, senior political figures, judges, and civil and military officials. The ceremony was seen as an important step for the region as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad’s appointment follows the end of Gilgit-Baltistan’s five-year constitutional term on November 25. The GB Assembly was dissolved, marking the transition to caretaker leadership. His role will ensure administrative continuity and manage preparations for the elections. The decision to appoint him was made after consultations between the outgoing chief minister, opposition leader, and federal minister for Kashmir Affairs.
The appointment of Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad is significant as he becomes the third caretaker chief minister in the region’s history. His interim leadership will oversee the smooth transition until the new government is elected. Once his cabinet is formed, the caretaker government will handle administrative duties and ensure that the election process is carried out efficiently.
The ceremony symbolized Gilgit-Baltistan’s ongoing democratic process. Despite the challenges, officials described the transition as orderly and in line with constitutional procedures. The region is now focused on ensuring a free and fair election, with the caretaker chief minister playing a crucial role in this effort.
As Gilgit-Baltistan heads into the election season, the appointment of Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad is seen as a necessary step for stability and progress. His leadership will help navigate the region through the election process and into the next phase of governance.
