K-Electric has announced that it will not carry out load shedding in areas where the “feels-like” temperature reaches 45 degrees Celsius, as Karachi continues to face intense heatwave conditions.

According to Khurram Abdullah, Head of Distribution Operations at K-Electric, the power utility has also suspended maintenance shutdowns due to the ongoing heatwave. He stated that the decision aims to provide maximum relief to citizens during extreme weather.

“If the perceived temperature in any area reaches 45°C, load shedding will not be carried out there,” he said, adding that the company is closely monitoring weather conditions across the city.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi will continue to experience hot and dry weather over the next 24 hours. The absence of sea breeze has further intensified the heat, making conditions uncomfortable for residents.

On Monday, some parts of the country recorded extremely high temperatures, with Turbat and Mithi reaching 45°C. Karachi, Sukkur, Sibi, Lasbela, and Thatta recorded 44°C, while temperatures were slightly lower in other cities, including Lahore at 37°C, Islamabad and Quetta at 34°C, and Peshawar at 33°C.

Experts have warned that prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable groups. Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and take precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The announcement by K-Electric is seen as a relief for residents, as uninterrupted power supply is crucial during extreme heat to ensure access to cooling and essential services.
