Karachi temperature reaches 40 degrees

Karachi experienced intense heat and dusty weather conditions on Wednesday as temperatures climbed to 40 degrees Celsius, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The Met Office said strong southwest winds began shortly after sunrise and continued throughout most of the day, creating dry and dusty conditions across the city. Winds were recorded at around 24 kilometres per hour, while gusts in some areas reportedly reached between 35 and 40 kilometres per hour.

Officials said the maximum temperature in Karachi reached 40.1°C, accompanied by humidity levels of around 34 per cent. The combination of hot weather, low humidity and powerful winds made conditions harsher compared to earlier in the week.

Residents across the metropolis faced discomfort due to the heatwave-like conditions, with dust-filled winds reducing visibility and increasing dryness in the atmosphere. Weather experts noted that the strong winds prevented moisture buildup, keeping the environment unusually dry despite the coastal location of the city.

The Met Office has forecast that hot and dry weather is likely to persist across most districts of Sindh on Thursday as well. However, partly cloudy skies are expected in Ghotki and nearby areas, where isolated thunderstorm activity may occur.

Several other cities in Sindh also recorded extremely high temperatures on Wednesday. Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mohenjo-daro registered temperatures of 45°C, while Mithi and Nawabshah recorded 43°C amid the ongoing heatwave conditions affecting the province.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and take precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses.
