Xi calls for diplomacy during Trump meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping said all global crises should be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations as he met US President Donald Trump in Beijing during Trump’s official visit to China.
The two leaders met at the Great Hall of the People, where Trump was formally welcomed in a reception ceremony attended by senior Chinese officials. Xi and Trump exchanged greetings and later held delegation-level talks focused on bilateral relations, trade and global security issues.
During the meeting, Xi Jinping welcomed the American delegation and stressed that China and the United States, as two major global powers, shared a responsibility to maintain international peace and economic stability. He said the world was closely watching the talks in Beijing amid rising tensions linked to Iran and challenges facing global supply chains.

Xi said that despite differences, both countries must follow the principles of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. He added that cooperation between China and the United States would benefit the world, while confrontation would harm both nations. The Chinese president also urged the two sides to become partners rather than rivals and work together to address global challenges.
Referring to changing international conditions, Xi said the world was witnessing transformations not seen in a century and called for stronger collaboration between major powers to ensure global stability and prosperity.
Trump, in his opening remarks, described it as an honour to meet Xi Jinping and praised their personal relationship. He said he had brought some of the world’s leading business figures with him on the visit and expressed optimism about future ties between the two countries.
The US president added that trade would remain the central focus of the summit and said he expected strong bilateral relations between Washington and Beijing in the coming decades. Trump also noted that both sides had previously managed disagreements through direct communication and cooperation.
Trump arrived in Beijing a day earlier for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening dialogue on trade, diplomacy and regional security matters.
