Malir Jailbreak: IG Prisons, Superintendent removed from office

Karachi: Following the escape of 213 inmates from Karachi’s Malir Jail, the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons, Qazi Nazeer, has been immediately removed from his position.
A high-level meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House, where it was also decided to suspend the DIG Prisons and the Superintendent of Malir Jail.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed strong disapproval, stating: “Allowing inmates out of their barracks after the earthquake was a serious lapse in judgment. Those responsible will be held accountable.”
He further warned that escaped prisoners must surrender voluntarily, otherwise they will face serious charges of jailbreak and rioting.
