A man was allegedly poisoned to death in the Peoples Colony area of Shakargarh on Thursday, police said, adding that investigations into the incident are currently underway.

According to police officials, the deceased was identified as Shahid Hayat, who had been staying at a relative’s house for the past several days. Authorities said that several suspects, including a woman, have reportedly been taken into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

SHO City Police Station Shakargarh Naveed Warraich confirmed that an FIR has been registered on the complaint of Zeeshan Hayat, the brother of the deceased. In his statement, the complainant said that Shahid Hayat had been frequently visiting the residence of his maternal uncle, Pervez Ahmed, located in Peoples Colony, where he had been staying recently.

The FIR states that on May 7, around 10:55am, the complainant received a phone call from his cousin Pervez Ahmed informing him that Shahid’s condition had suddenly deteriorated and he was being taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Zeeshan Hayat said he immediately rushed to the hospital along with other relatives, where they discovered that Shahid had already died before their arrival.

The complainant further alleged that upon reaching the hospital, several suspects — including Pervez Ahmed, his daughter Anam Pervez, and his wife Bushra Bibi — fled the scene along with two unidentified individuals.

He accused the suspects of allegedly administering a poisonous substance to Shahid Hayat, claiming the act was carried out due to a personal dispute or grudge.

Police said that post-mortem examination will help determine the exact cause of death, while further investigations are underway to verify the allegations and establish the facts of the case.

Authorities added that more arrests may be made as the inquiry progresses.
