Mohsin Naqvi: The Champions Trophy will take place in Pakistan; National Honour Comes First

LAHORE: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, affirmed that the Champions Trophy will be hosted in Pakistan, emphasising the importance of the nation’s honor. Speaking to the media in Lahore, he stated that if India has concerns, it should engage in discussions to resolve them.

Naqvi mentioned that renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium is progressing rapidly and will be completed on time. He assured me that no enclosures are being removed and all will remain intact.

He reiterated that Pakistan prioritises its dignity above all and will ensure the Champions Trophy is held in the country. He confirmed that the PCB is in communication with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and awaiting their response. Regarding India’s reservations, Naqvi encouraged dialogue to address their concerns.

Expressing optimism, Naqvi highlighted the importance of separating sports from politics and reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance. He called for the ICC to announce the event schedule soon so Pakistan can complete its preparations.

Naqvi also praised efforts by Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, and Abdul Razzaq in their respective roles, stating that the PCB values their contributions. Responding to questions, he clarified that the tournament has not been cancelled but rescheduled.

This statement underscores Pakistan’s determination to successfully host the Champions Trophy amidst geopolitical and logistical challenges.
