MQM 28th Amendment

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has called for immediate implementation of the 28th Amendment. Leaders said the amendment will empower citizens in governance. They emphasized that long-standing conflicts in Pakistan need urgent attention. The party praised the government and armed forces for reducing hostilities. Observers say MQM aims to strengthen democratic participation through legal reforms.

MQM Pakistan Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui spoke at a press conference alongside Mustafa Kamal, Amin Haq, and Anees Qaimkhani. He said that conflicts from the past 30–40 years have now reached Pakistan’s doorstep. Siddiqui highlighted the importance of mediation and negotiations in resolving disputes. The leaders emphasized national stability and peace as priorities. They called on all political parties to cooperate.

Siddiqui stressed that national defense is the responsibility of the armed forces. However, he noted that wars affect the entire nation. In conflict-affected areas, governance should be transferred to local communities. He said empowering citizens ensures better administration and accountability. The MQM supports policies that involve people directly in governance decisions.

The MQM leader highlighted voting rights as crucial for democratic governance. He criticized hereditary politics and dynastic power, saying voters should have a meaningful voice. Siddiqui said the 28th Amendment is expected to give Pakistanis a real share in government. He stressed that citizen participation strengthens democracy. Reforming governance structures is necessary to meet public expectations.

The MQM urged collaboration among federal and provincial authorities.

On economic matters, Siddiqui discussed ongoing crisis management. He said steps are being taken, including potential lockdowns, to stabilize the economy. He emphasized that citizens should have a say in such decisions. The MQM stressed transparency and public involvement in economic planning. Leaders urged the government to consult stakeholders before major policy decisions.

Siddiqui called on the Prime Minister to fulfill the MQM’s long-standing demand for empowerment. He reminded that Pakistan’s constitution exists to protect citizens’ rights. The party urged swift implementation of the 28th Amendment. Leaders said meaningful reforms will strengthen democracy and national stability. Public participation is key to sustainable governance and peace.
