Waseem Akhtar calls for resignations

MQM-P leader and former Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar demanded that his party end its alliance with the federal government. He spoke following the decision to replace Kamran Tessori as Sindh Governor. Akhtar said the party should resign from ministries in protest. He added that the move shocked MQM-P leaders.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Akhtar said MQM learned about Tessori’s removal through media reports. He called the development unexpected and disappointing. According to him, the party should have been consulted before such a decision. This lack of communication, he said, sets a troubling precedent for political alliances.

Akhtar criticized PML-N leaders, claiming they only seek MQM’s votes for their political benefit. He said the party’s demands were ignored repeatedly. Therefore, MQM’s alliance should not be treated lightly. He warned that ignoring MQM undermines the credibility of coalition politics.

He further stated that the party leadership should meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Akhtar suggested that MQM step down from ministries immediately. According to him, none of MQM’s promises have been implemented. He emphasized the importance of showing political strength and unity.

Akhtar added that MQM is a key allied party in the federal government. He said removing officials cannot happen based on someone’s personal wish. Such unilateral decisions, he stressed, violate the spirit of coalition governance. He urged leadership to protect the party’s interests.

He recalled that during the PDM-I government, MQM presented its demands, and the Prime Minister had agreed to them. Akhtar said ignoring these agreements now is hard to understand. He emphasized that consultation is crucial in maintaining trust among coalition partners.

Akhtar insisted that MQM’s leadership should sit together to discuss the party’s next steps. He said the party must defend its political position. According to him, failing to act now may weaken MQM’s influence in federal decision-making. The party is considering strong measures in response.
