Murree internet outage

Residents and visitors in the hill station of Murree have been facing significant difficulties due to the suspension of internet services for the past 10 days, affecting communication, business activities and daily operations across the region.

According to Deputy Commissioner Zahir Shirazi, the disruption is linked to the recent situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which has impacted telecommunications infrastructure serving the area. He explained that signal towers providing connectivity to Murree are installed near the junction of Kashmir and adjoining regions, making local services vulnerable to disruptions originating from across the border area.

The deputy commissioner stated that internet connectivity in Murree and nearby areas, including Kotli Sattian, has been affected because of the suspension of services in Kashmir. Authorities are monitoring the situation and remain in contact with relevant telecommunications providers regarding the restoration of normal services.

The prolonged outage has created challenges for a wide range of users. Tourists visiting the popular resort town have reported difficulties accessing navigation services, online bookings and digital payment platforms. Local businesses that rely on internet-based transactions and customer communication have also experienced disruptions.

Educational institutions have been among the affected sectors, with students and teachers facing obstacles in accessing online learning resources and administrative systems. Office workers and professionals dependent on internet connectivity for daily operations have similarly encountered delays and inconvenience.

Residents say the lack of reliable internet access has complicated routine activities, including communication with family members, online banking and access to essential digital services. Many have urged authorities and service providers to expedite efforts to restore connectivity.

Murree remains one of Pakistan’s most visited tourist destinations, and stakeholders hope internet services will be fully restored soon to minimize the impact on residents, businesses and visitors during the busy travel season.
