Asian countries are facing huge destruction because of recent natural disasters in Asia, including storms, heavy rains, floods, and landslides. These disasters have affected millions of people, damaged homes, and caused major losses across the region. The situation is especially difficult in areas where rescue teams are still struggling to reach people safely.

In the last week alone, more than 1,100 people have lost their lives due to these natural disasters. Indonesia reported 604 deaths, Sri Lanka recorded 366, Thailand confirmed 176, and Malaysia reported 3 deaths. Thousands of families have been displaced and are living in temporary shelters, waiting for help and recovery.

Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency after large-scale destruction caused by storms, floods, and landslides. The Sri Lankan president stated that the damage from the current disaster is even more severe than the destruction caused by the 2004 tsunami. Many areas remain flooded, and rescue teams are working non-stop to support affected families.

According to Save the Children, thousands of children in Indonesia and Thailand cannot attend school because of damaged buildings and unsafe conditions. In southern Thailand alone, around 76,000 children are out of school. In Indonesia’s Aceh and Sumatra regions, around 1,000 schools are either destroyed or being used as emergency shelters, stopping normal classes.

Humanitarian groups warn that children need not only education support but also psychological and protective help. They also caution that the situation may worsen because of ongoing rainfall and new weather threats linked to recent natural disasters in Asia.
