NDMA issues nationwide alert for rain and storms

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a countrywide alert, warning of rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and snowfall across various regions over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), a strong westerly weather system is currently affecting Pakistan, bringing significant changes in weather conditions. Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious as the system may disrupt daily life and pose risks to safety.
In Islamabad and several cities across Punjab, rainfall accompanied by thunder and gusty winds is expected. Major urban centers such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot are likely to experience intermittent showers over the coming hours.
Northern and mountainous areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, along with parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are forecast to receive snowfall along with rain. These conditions may lead to travel disruptions and increase the risk of landslides.

Authorities have also warned of potential urban flooding in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in cities such as Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Mardan. The risk of flooding may continue until April 5.
Meanwhile, southern regions including Karachi and other parts of Sindh are also expected to receive rainfall and strong winds. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Balochistan, including Quetta and Gwadar.
The NDMA cautioned that strong winds, lightning, and hail could damage weak structures, trees, crops, and power lines. Rainfall may also disrupt traffic and make roads slippery, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow official safety guidelines. Tourists planning to visit northern areas should check weather and road conditions before departure.
