Noor Zaman Reaches Charlottesville Open Semifinal After Stunning Win

Pakistan’s Noor Zaman advanced to the semifinals of the Charlottesville Open after a dominant straight-games win on Thursday. The 21-year-old beat Egypt’s third seed Yahya Elnawasany 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 in just 35 minutes. Zaman’s aggressive style and consistency proved too strong in the tightly contested match. He will now face top seed Timothy Brownell of the United States.

Brownell booked his semifinal spot after defeating India’s Veer Chotrani 3-1 in a 41-minute contest. In other quarterfinals, England’s Sam Todd beat Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio 3-0. Egypt’s Salman Khalil also advanced, defeating India’s Velavan Senthilkumar 3-1. The Charlottesville Open offers a prize purse of $31,250 and is part of the PSA World Tour.

Zaman’s run began with a strong performance against England’s Tom Walsh in the Round of 16. He won the match 3-1, showing power and control throughout. Zaman claimed the first set 13-11 and the second 11-5. Though Walsh fought back in the third, Zaman closed the match in four sets.

This impressive form follows Zaman’s recent title win at the Nash Cup in Canada. There, he stunned the second seed with a 3-0 win. The match featured a thrilling 19-17 first set, followed by 11-7 and 11-9 victories. It marked a major milestone for the reigning World U23 Champion.

Meanwhile, fellow Pakistanis Asim Khan and Ashab Irfan were knocked out in the Round of 16. Asim lost 3-0 to Brownell, while Ashab fell 3-1 to India’s Veer Chotrani. As Zaman heads into the semifinals, he carries the hopes of Pakistan with him.
