Pakistan, Afghan forces clash along Bajaur border

Tensions escalated along the border as Pakistan and Afghanistan forces exchanged fire in the Bajaur sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to security officials.
Sources reported that the exchange began after fighters linked to the Afghan Taliban allegedly opened fire using a range of weapons across multiple along the frontier. In response, Pakistani security forces carried out retaliatory action, targeting positions from where the firing originated.
Officials stated that the response was focused and aimed at neutralizing the immediate threat. According to security sources, several posts believed to be used for cross-border attacks were hit during the operation. Authorities emphasized that no civilian areas were targeted during the exchange.
The incident comes shortly after the resumption of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, a military campaign launched earlier this year in response to what Pakistan described as unprovoked attacks from across the border. The Foreign Office of Pakistan recently confirmed that a temporary pause in the operation during Eidul Fitr had ended, and activities would continue until objectives are met.
Pakistan Resumes Operations in Afghanistan After Eid Pause Ends
Speaking at a recent briefing, FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi reiterated that the operation remains active. Military leadership, including Asim Munir, has previously stated that lasting peace depends on the Afghan Taliban severing ties with militant groups.
Relations between the two neighboring countries have deteriorated in recent years, with repeated border incidents contributing to mistrust. Diplomatic efforts led by Turkey and Qatar have sought to ease tensions, but progress has remained limited.
The latest exchange underscores ongoing security challenges along the long and sensitive border.
