Pakistan facilitates return of 30 Iranian nationals

Pakistan has announced that it is facilitating the repatriation of 30 Iranian nationals, including fishermen rescued at sea and crew members from a vessel recently intercepted by United States authorities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan was pleased to assist in the humanitarian effort and remained committed to supporting the safe return of the individuals to Iran.
According to Dar, the group includes eight Iranian fishermen who were rescued by the British vessel MMA Valour after their boat ran aground at sea. The remaining 22 individuals are crew members from the vessel Lenore, also known as Davina, which was recently interdicted by US authorities.

The Iranian nationals are expected to transit through Karachi in the coming days before continuing their journey home. Pakistani authorities are coordinating closely with officials from Iran, the United States and the United Kingdom to ensure the smooth transfer and safe repatriation of the individuals.
Dar emphasized that Pakistan values humanitarian cooperation and will continue extending assistance whenever possible. He described the effort as part of Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability and constructive engagement with neighboring countries.
The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Iran and the United States. Earlier this year, Pakistan facilitated the return of crew members from another Iranian vessel that had been seized by US authorities. Officials described that move as a confidence-building measure aimed at improving communication and cooperation among the concerned parties.
The vessel Davina, a large oil tanker capable of carrying up to two million barrels of crude oil, was placed under US sanctions in 2024 over allegations related to Iranian oil trading. US military authorities later conducted an interdiction operation involving the vessel in the Indian Ocean.
Observers say Pakistan’s role in coordinating humanitarian transfers highlights its efforts to maintain balanced diplomatic relations and contribute to regional dialogue during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions.
