Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has decided to introduce a fee cap for private medical and dental colleges to prevent excessive charges and make medical education more affordable.

According to sources, the decision was taken in response to the rising tuition fees, which can reach up to Rs. 3.5 million per year. The new policy will establish a maximum fee limit, ensuring that students are not burdened with exorbitant costs.

Government officials have stated that the primary goal of this initiative is to regulate fee structures, prevent arbitrary increases, and make quality medical education accessible to a wider population.

Consultations with relevant stakeholders have been completed, and an official announcement regarding the new fee structure is expected soon.

In a related move, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had earlier prohibited private medical and dental colleges from collecting fees, emphasizing the need for better oversight in the sector.
