Pakistan emerges as regional trade hub as NLC expands Central Asia routes

Pakistan is increasingly positioning itself as a regional trade hub as the National Logistics Cell (NLC) reports early success from its enhanced logistics and cross-border trade strategy, with tangible results now visible in Central Asia–South Asia connectivity.
Under a transit trade agreement, the first commercial shipment from Kyrgyzstan, transported by an NLC partner company via China, has successfully reached Pakistan. Officials describe the development as a significant step toward strengthening regional trade links and improving supply chain integration across multiple countries.
Due to NLC’s efforts, several regional states have begun relying on the Khunjerab Pass and the Sost Dry Port as a dependable trade corridor. This shift is seen as expanding Pakistan’s role in facilitating international trade routes connecting Central Asia with global markets.

The new trade framework is expected to provide Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan direct access to Karachi Port. This would significantly reduce logistical barriers for landlocked Central Asian countries and streamline import and export operations through a more efficient southern route.
Officials say Pakistan has now become a faster, safer, and more reliable trade passage for Central Asia. Since 2024, NLC has also been operating successful deliveries from Karachi to multiple cities in Kyrgyzstan under the modern TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) system, ensuring consistent cargo movement across borders.
Experts believe the development could reshape regional trade dynamics by reducing dependence on traditional transit routes. The improved corridor is also expected to enhance Pakistan’s economic influence while offering diversified trade options to Central Asian economies.
The Sost Dry Port, remaining operational throughout the year, continues to play a key role in maintaining uninterrupted trade flows with China and Central Asia, further reinforcing Pakistan’s emerging status as a strategic logistics gateway.
