ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is preparing to launch 5G services ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking a major step in digital connectivity. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed all preparations for issuing licences to telecom operators. Officials confirmed the rollout will begin shortly after regulatory approval.

Licences for companies that successfully acquired 5G spectrum are scheduled to be issued on Thursday. The ceremony will take place at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. Top leadership from telecom firms and senior government officials will attend, highlighting the initiative’s national significance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the licence ceremony as chief guest. His presence underlines the government’s commitment to advancing digital services and technology infrastructure nationwide. The formal issuance will allow commercial 5G deployment across major cities.

Telecom companies have met all financial requirements set by regulators. Each operator has deposited a $15 million bank guarantee as part of the licensing process. This demonstrates compliance and readiness to launch next-generation networks.

Operators have been upgrading infrastructure, installing equipment, and testing networks in preparation for the rollout. These measures ensure immediate service availability once licences are officially issued. Officials aim for smooth, uninterrupted service during the launch phase.

Following licence issuance, 5G services will initially launch in Islamabad and other major cities. The phased rollout will expand coverage while maintaining service quality. The introduction of 5G is expected to enhance internet speeds, reduce latency, and support IoT, smart cities, and advanced digital services, strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy.
