Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend an international peace summit aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. The summit is being held on the special invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials. The summit is a result of diplomatic efforts made during last month’s UN General Assembly session.

According to the PM Office spokesperson, the Prime Minister’s participation reflects Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and highlights the country’s commitment to peace and reconstruction in Gaza.

Leaders from over 20 countries will attend the summit, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the French President, the German Chancellor, and the Prime Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UK, and Italy.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the European Council will also be present. The initial phase of the agreement includes prisoner exchanges, provision of humanitarian aid, and a phased ceasefire, which will be monitored by the international community.
