PM Shehbaz Sharif Likely to Join US-Iran Technical Talks in Switzerland

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to participate in the upcoming US-Iran Technical Talks scheduled to take place in Switzerland under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The talks are being viewed as an important step in advancing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif may depart for Zurich later tonight to attend the discussions. His possible participation highlights Pakistan’s continuing role in facilitating dialogue and supporting regional peace initiatives.

Meanwhile, US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already present in Switzerland, while US Vice President J.D. Vance is also expected to arrive today. On the Iranian side, a delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has departed for Switzerland to take part in the negotiations.

Iranian media reported that the delegation includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, National Security Council official Ali Bagheri, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, Kazem Gharibabadi, and Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei. The technical-level negotiations are scheduled to begin on June 21 in the Swiss town of Bürgenstock.

A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the talks are being held as a follow-up to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar will participate in the discussions. Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating dialogue and promoting peace, with the US-Iran Technical Talks serving as a key part of ongoing diplomatic efforts.
