Islamabad – On the occasion of Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude), President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid heartfelt tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, calling their actions a “golden chapter in military history”.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, stated that the day is being observed to celebrate Pakistan’s remarkable response to Indian aggression. He noted that on the night between May 6 and 7, India carried out a cowardly attack that resulted in the martyrdom of innocent civilians. However, Pakistan’s swift and decisive retaliation forced a significantly larger enemy to retreat within a matter of hours.

He emphasised that the fighter jets, once considered India’s pride, are now reduced to ashes and serve as a lesson. “Our air force struck back with precision, delivering a powerful message. The armed forces gave a fitting reply in the enemy’s language,” the Prime Minister added.

He also highlighted that the enemy’s military bases, ammunition depots, and airfields were turned to ruins, and even advanced fighter jets like Rafale were neutralised. “This was not just a military response—it was a stand against ideologies of aggression, extremism, and hatred,” he said.

Prime Minister Sharif called the operation a victory for dignity, honour, and the principles of a sovereign nation. He expressed pride in the unity shown by the Pakistani nation and thanked all branches of the armed forces, including Army Chief General Asim Munir, Air Chief Zaheer Babar, and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, for their leadership and dedication.

He also acknowledged the political leadership of both government allies and the opposition for demonstrating national unity during the crisis.

Separately, President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, said the day marks the successful execution of Operation Bunyad-e-Marsous and expressed gratitude for the victory granted during a critical time.

“This is not just the success of our armed forces, but the entire nation stood firm like a rock in the face of aggression,” he stated. President Zardari praised the military’s professional and precise response, saying the world recognised Pakistan’s strategic patience and operational excellence.

He reiterated Pakistan’s peaceful intentions, emphasising that while the country does not harbour aggressive ambitions, it will never compromise on sovereignty or territorial integrity. “Any aggression will meet a strong and full response,” he warned.

The president also rejected India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a violation of international commitments, and pledged to use all national means to safeguard Pakistan’s water rights.
