Pakistani TV host Tabish Hashmi has strongly criticized the situation in Karachi while reacting to the tragic Gul Plaza incident. Speaking on a current affairs program, he expressed deep sorrow over repeated accidents and governance failures, saying that Tabish Hashmi suggests privatizing Karachi as a serious idea to improve the city’s management.

During his appearance on  program, Tabish Hashmi said that almost every household in Karachi has some emotional connection with Gul Plaza. He added that many long-standing associations and landmarks of the city, formed over decades, are gradually disappearing.

Tabish Hashmi also referred to a press conference by the Sindh chief minister, who said he was answerable for the incident. The host questioned this claim and said that accountability is not proven through words alone, especially when similar tragedies have happened repeatedly in Karachi.

He further asked whether any real consequences followed such incidents, such as resignations, salary cuts, or personal payment of compensation. According to him, victims’ families suffer while officials continue without facing meaningful responsibility.

Concluding his remarks, Tabish Hashmi suggests privatizing Karachi, saying that if citizens from all communities come together and take ownership of the city, they could run it far better. He expressed confidence that Karachi’s people would manage the city more effectively than the current system, even with limited resources.
