Punjab and World Bank Strengthen Partnership in Key Development Sectors

LAHORE – The Punjab government and the World Bank have agreed to strengthen cooperation in key development sectors. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met World Bank President Ajay Banga and his delegation. She warmly welcomed the visiting team to Lahore. Both sides discussed expanding their long-term partnership.
During the meeting, officials reviewed cooperation in health, education, housing, and tourism. They also discussed the “Suthra Punjab” program and climate-related projects. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in these priority areas. The talks focused on sustainable and inclusive development.
Meanwhile, World Bank President Ajay Banga praised Punjab’s welfare-driven policies and reforms. He lauded progress in tourism, education, health, and skills development. He also reviewed World Bank–supported projects across different sectors. Banga assured continued support and investment in climate resilience and digital governance.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government values World Bank cooperation. She emphasized that health and education remain top priorities. She added that major investments are underway in both sectors. She also reaffirmed commitment to financial stability and the Country Partnership Framework.
Furthermore, the chief minister highlighted governance reforms and digital initiatives. She mentioned digital payments, agriculture improvements, and e-procurement systems. She also shared details of the Nawaz Sharif IT City and global IT certification programs. Additionally, she highlighted housing schemes and social welfare programs for deserving citizens.
