Free public transport in Lahore

LAHORE – Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced special environmental measures for citizens during the Basant festival. She said current wind speeds are low, while Lahore’s Air Quality Index has reached 192. However, she noted progress in smog control through modern data, scientific models, and advanced technology. The government aims to balance festive celebrations with environmental protection. Authorities continue monitoring air quality closely during Basant.

To reduce environmental pressure, the Punjab government announced free public transport for Lahore residents. The facility will be available from February 6 to February 8. Buses, Metro Bus services, and the Orange Line Metro Train will operate free of cost. Officials believe this step will help reduce traffic congestion. It will also limit vehicle emissions during the festival.

Aurangzeb urged citizens to avoid using private vehicles during Basant celebrations. She encouraged people to prioritize collective and public transportation. According to the minister, public cooperation is essential to control air pollution. Reduced private travel can significantly improve air quality levels. The appeal aims to promote eco-friendly festive practices.

The minister said joint measures are underway to manage traffic and pollution. Artificial intelligence systems are actively identifying pollution hotspots across the city. These systems help authorities take timely and targeted action. Technology-based monitoring supports better environmental decision-making. Officials expect improved enforcement during the festival period.

Aurangzeb added that drone surveillance is monitoring factories, brick kilns, and vehicles. The surveillance ensures strict enforcement of environmental regulations. Authorities will take action against violations without leniency. The measures reflect Punjab’s broader strategy to combat smog. Officials hope these steps ensure a cleaner and safer Basant for citizens.
