Punjab approved Rs. 15 billion direct support for wheat farmers

The Punjab government has approved a Rs. 15 billion support package for 500,000 wheat farmers, to be disbursed directly through the Kisan Card.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also announced waivers on Abiana (water tax) and fixed agricultural taxes for wheat growers. Additionally, to protect wheat from adverse weather conditions, the government would provide four months of free storage. To ensure stability in wheat supply, the provincial cabinet would soon approve a mandate for 25% mandatory wheat stockpiling.

The government would also coordinate with the federal authorities to facilitate the export of wheat and related products.

CM Maryam Nawaz stated: “No farmer will suffer a loss. If a farmer has sown wheat, they will be fully compensated. Farmers are our brothers — we stand with them and always will.”
