The Punjab Bar Council on Tuesday restored the practicing licence of Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq. He represents YouTuber Rajab Butt in several ongoing legal matters. The decision followed judicial scrutiny of the earlier suspension.

Earlier, Justice Malik Awais Khalid of the Lahore High Court heard Ashfaq’s petition challenging the suspension. The court also sought the complete suspension record from the Punjab Bar Council. This hearing prompted a fresh review of the matter.

In its written order, PBC Vice Chairman Muhammad Ashfaq Kahooti announced the restoration. He cited violations of Article 10-A of Pakistan’s Constitution. Therefore, the council reinstated Ashfaq’s licence with immediate effect.

Previously, the PBC suspended Ashfaq’s licence on December 31 after a complaint by Karachi Bar Association officials. However, the council acted without giving him a proper hearing. As a result, questions arose about due process and fairness.

Meanwhile, the PBC clarified it retains authority to discipline advocates for misconduct under the law. Still, Ashfaq denied all allegations and termed the complaint biased and mala fide. Consequently, the restoration reaffirmed constitutional protections and natural justice principles.
