LAHORE – The Punjab government has expanded its flagship housing initiative, “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar,” to include joint families. The program now supports families in enlarging their homes while preserving shared living spaces.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif called the program a “golden gift” for Punjab. She emphasized its role in promoting social harmony and housing development across the province.

Under the initiative, families can access interest-free loans with easy installments. The scheme encourages joint family living while providing financial assistance to expand homes.

The government aims to construct 160,000 homes by June 2026. Additionally, residents without land will receive plots and interest-free loans under the “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar” program.

As part of the first phase, 1,534 plots will be allocated in cities like Jhelum, Kasur, Faisalabad, and Lodhran. A lottery system will determine the recipients.

So far, 18,80,081 users are registered in the program. Of them, 10,66,559 applicants are actively seeking benefits. Currently, 67,197 homes are completed, while 53,843 are under construction. Loans worth 164.66 billion PKR have been disbursed, with a recovery rate of 99 percent.

The chief minister instructed officials to expedite installment payments, increase project funds, and provide policies to assist families in case of a primary applicant’s death. She emphasized continued support for all beneficiaries.
