Extends Section 144

The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for seven more days. The move aims to prevent protests, rallies, public gatherings, sit-ins, and similar activities. Authorities have imposed a ban on public assemblies of more than four people at any location. The restriction is in place to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

In addition, the government has prohibited the public display of weapons. Loudspeakers are also restricted, except for specific purposes like the call to prayer (Azaan) and Friday sermons. These measures are part of a broader effort to reduce the risk of public disturbances and maintain peace across the province. The Home Department emphasized the need for a controlled environment to avoid any potential threats.

The government also banned the distribution of provocative, hate-based, or sectarian material. Authorities are concerned that large public gatherings could become targets for terrorist activities. Therefore, the extension of Section 144 aims to reduce the chance of anti-state elements exploiting public spaces for violent purposes. The safety of lives and property remains the priority for the authorities.

However, the restrictions do not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, or burials. Government officials on duty, law enforcement personnel, and courts are also exempt. These exceptions ensure that essential activities and services can continue without interference. The Home Department has issued a notification specifying these exemptions to avoid confusion.

To further clarify the rules, the Home Department has called for public awareness campaigns. Citizens are urged to follow the restrictions to help maintain a peaceful environment. The Section 144 extension will remain in effect until Saturday, 22 November.
