After Hamas refused to disarm, Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump. The main topic of the call was the Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by the U.S. The call came at a time when efforts to end the fighting in Gaza face serious challenges.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the details of the phone call could not be shared because the discussion was sensitive. However, she expressed hope that Hamas would accept the plan. She also said President Trump would soon set a deadline for Hamas to respond.

Meanwhile, Hamas has asked for changes to Trump’s ceasefire plan. British media reports that Hamas might reject the proposal completely. Trump had earlier given Hamas three to four days to give a final answer.

According to French news sources, meetings held in Qatar showed that Hamas leaders are divided. One group rejected disarming, while the other seemed willing to accept the plan if certain guarantees were given. Talks also involved officials from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Egypt is working with Qatar and Turkey to convince Hamas to agree. He added that the U.S. plan needs changes and more talks are required on Gaza’s security and leadership. He warned that if Hamas refuses to disarm, the situation could become worse and peace will be harder to achieve.
