Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz is preparing to become the next Prime Minister, and Shehbaz Sharif himself will administer her oath when the time comes.

Speaking on one program, Rana Sanaullah stated, “There is no doubt that Maryam Nawaz is getting ready for the role of Prime Minister, and Shehbaz Sharif will personally hand her the oath of office.”

He clarified that this transition would only occur if Shehbaz Sharif believes it is the right time for the next generation of leadership to take charge. “Given Shehbaz Sharif’s performance, he himself could still be the strongest candidate for Prime Minister,” he added.

Responding to a question, Rana Sanaullah mentioned that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has a close relationship with President Asif Ali Zardari. “Mohsin Naqvi calls himself Zardari’s spiritual son. Whenever I visit the Presidency, he is already there,” he remarked, adding that he was unaware of the reason for Naqvi’s recent meetings with the President.

Rana Sanaullah further said that amid rising political tension, only Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari could play a stabilizing role. “I had earlier said that Mohsin Naqvi was lucky — otherwise, he could have become the Prime Minister himself,” he quipped.

He added that circumstances have changed now, and with Shehbaz Sharif’s strong performance, “no one can match his leadership.”
Before the elections, Nawaz Sharif was the declared candidate of PML-N for Prime Minister, but after the results, he decided otherwise, saying, “If we don’t have a clear majority, I will not take the office,” and instead nominated Shehbaz Sharif for the post.
