A shipment of Saudi crude oil is on its way to Pakistan after successfully passing through the Strait of Hormuz, an area currently experiencing reduced maritime traffic due to heightened regional tensions.

According to shipping data, the tanker carrying the cargo navigated a northern path close to Iran, moving through a narrow corridor between the islands of Larak and Qeshm. This route has become more prominent as authorities in Iran increase oversight of vessel movements in the region.

The oil tanker was not alone in its journey. On the same day, two liquefied petroleum gas carriers and four bulk ships also exited the Gulf, indicating a cautious but ongoing flow of trade. However, overall maritime activity remains significantly below normal levels.

Global Tensions Impact Economy More Than Pandemic, Says Saudi Finance Minister

Tracking ship movements has become increasingly difficult due to signal disruptions and the deliberate shutdown of AIS transponders by vessels operating in high-risk waters. This has limited the accuracy of real-time monitoring and contributed to uncertainty in reported shipping volumes.

Meanwhile, discussions within Iran about introducing transit fees for vessels passing through Hormuz have added another layer of complexity. Reports also indicate that several ships from countries including Malaysia and Pakistan have recently received clearance to move through the area after delays.

Despite restrictions, some Iran-linked oil shipments continue to pass through the strait, often without active tracking signals. Analysts suggest that actual traffic levels may be higher than currently visible due to delayed or incomplete data.

The development highlights the continued importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a key global energy corridor, even as geopolitical tensions and security concerns shape shipping patterns and disrupt established routes.
