KARACHI – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has distributed Rs27 billion worth of fresh currency notes across 17,000 commercial bank branches nationwide to facilitate public demand ahead of Eidul Fitr.

Dismissing circulating rumours about a shortage of new banknotes, the central bank clarified in an official statement that it remains fully committed to ensuring the availability of fresh currency notes through commercial banks.

In addition to fresh notes, the SBP has ensured that ATMs remain operational and dispense quality banknotes without any disruptions during the festive period.

To monitor the distribution process, SBP’s Cash Monitoring teams are conducting on-site inspections at bank branches to verify that fresh currency is reaching the public as intended.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has predicted that the Shawwal moon is likely to be sighted on March 30, suggesting that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan on March 31.
