Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced extraordinary measures to deal with the economic difficulties caused by the regional conflict. The steps aim to reduce fuel consumption, control expenses, and maintain essential services across the province. As part of the plan, the government has decided that petroleum crisis emergency measures in Punjab will remain in place until the fuel situation improves.

According to the announcement, provincial ministers will no longer receive official fuel during the crisis. In addition, fuel allowances for government officers’ vehicles have been immediately reduced by 50 percent. Protocol vehicles accompanying ministers and senior officials have also been banned, and only one vehicle will be allowed for essential security purposes.

The provincial government has also introduced a work-from-home policy for many public offices. Only essential staff will attend offices while the rest will work remotely. Schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab will remain closed from March 10 to March 31, though examinations will continue according to schedule. Educational institutions will also be allowed to conduct online classes during this period.

To maintain public services, the government said digital platforms such as e-business services and the “Maryam Ki Dastak” program will continue operating. Official meetings will mostly take place through online sessions and teleconferences. Outdoor government events have been banned, and the popular Horse and Cattle Show cultural festival has been postponed.

District petroleum monitoring committees will also be formed to track fuel supply and prevent misuse. The Punjab Information Technology Board has been tasked with creating a track-and-trace system for petroleum products. The chief minister urged citizens to avoid unnecessary shopping, hoarding of goods, and late-night outings during the crisis. She said the government will strictly deal with anyone exploiting the situation as petroleum crisis emergency measures in Punjab continue across the province.
