KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed officials to ensure a smooth and steady supply of wheat in the market. He said a stable wheat supply would help control the prices of flour and bread. The decision came during a high-level meeting on the wheat release policy held at the CM House. Agriculture Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar, Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman, and Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah were present. The meeting focused on maintaining food security and supporting farmers across the province.

The chief minister noted that Sindh currently has 1.2 million tons of wheat in stock. Additionally, the private sector holds around 600,000 tons. He said these stocks are enough to meet demand for the next four and a half months. By then, the new wheat harvest will begin. Murad Ali Shah emphasized the need to manage stocks efficiently to avoid any market disruption.

He directed the food minister to prepare and finalize a detailed wheat release policy within the week. He said the policy must include a clear release schedule and pricing strategy. Around 250,000 tons of wheat are usually released into the market each month, according to the food department. The CM also stressed the importance of setting a fair price for wheat. This, he said, would ensure affordability for consumers and profitability for farmers.

To boost wheat production, the provincial government is offering direct support to small-scale farmers. The scheme targets growers with 25 acres of land or less. Each eligible farmer will receive one bag of DAP and two bags of urea fertilizer. Murad Ali Shah said these steps would improve crop yields and strengthen food security. He also expressed his intention to set a new support price to encourage a bumper harvest.

The CM concluded by stating that food security and market stability are top priorities. He urged officials to act quickly and transparently. The wheat release policy is expected to be approved and implemented soon. This initiative aims to balance market needs while supporting the farming community. More updates will follow once the policy is officially rolled out.
