Sindh High Court Hears Case Against Minister’s

The Sindh High Court concluded hearings on a petition challenging Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar’s Sindh Bar Council election.

The court reserved its decision after listening to arguments from lawyers representing both sides. The verdict will be announced today.

Government lawyers argued Lanjar is not a government employee in his ministerial role, while the petitioner questioned his eligibility as a member of the Sindh Assembly.

The court restrained the Advocate General from presenting arguments due to concerns about subordination to the provincial minister. Additional Advocate General Saif argued on the government’s behalf.

Petitioner Ashfaq Panhwar requested the court reject Lanjar’s nomination, saying he receives allowances and privileges that make him ineligible under election rules.

During the hearing, Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon asked whether the court even had the authority to remove a governor from office. The judge questioned the legal basis for such a request.

Petitioner Ahmed Ali Gabol Advocate argued that the President of Pakistan was made a party to the petition. He insisted that the court could direct the President on this matter.

Justice Memon further inquired why the governor should be removed. The court stressed the importance of clear reasoning behind such a serious demand.

The petitioner’s lawyer claimed that the governor was acting in favour of a political party. He argued that the governor’s role was meant to remain neutral as a federal representative.
