U.S. President Donald Trump is under fire following reports that he plans to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet — a “flying palace” — allegedly gifted by the Qatari royal family, raising questions over presidential gift rules and transparency.

The jet could be the most expensive gift ever for the U.S. government. The aircraft, a high-end version of Boeing’s jumbo jet, was reportedly intended to replace a decades-old version currently in service as the new model for Air Force One.

Trump, 78, addressed the issue on social media late Sunday, insisting that the plane was not a personal gift but a temporary asset intended for the U.S. Department of Defence. He emphasised that the arrangement was a “transparent transaction” and said the aircraft was being provided “free of charge”.
