BANNU – Terrorists attacked Ahmed Wazir Police Station on Friday, surrounding it from all sides and exchanging fire with officers. The gunfight lasted nearly two hours. Police retaliated effectively, causing heavy losses to the assailants. Additional reinforcements arrived, forcing the terrorists to flee the area. Three police personnel were injured and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
DIG Sajjad Khan confirmed the attack and praised the officers’ swift and coordinated response. He said the police inflicted significant losses on the attackers. The operation demonstrated the security forces’ readiness to protect law enforcement facilities in the region. Authorities have increased patrolling to prevent further incidents.
This attack follows a recent counterterrorism operation in Bannu. On November 24–25, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation targeting Fitna al Khawarij (FAK), an Indian-sponsored militant group. Twenty-two militants were killed in an intense exchange of fire during the operation.
The ISPR stated that sanitization operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining Indian-sponsored militants in Bannu. Security forces remain vigilant in clearing areas prone to militant presence. Officials emphasized that such operations are part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have urged local residents to cooperate with law enforcement and report suspicious activities. The successful defense of Ahmed Wazir Police Station highlights the effectiveness of rapid police response. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security and countering terrorism in the region.
